MORE PLEASE - THE BIG LASAGNA
An exclusive excerpt of The Bolognese Menu from my book, and everything we ate at our wedding in Bologna and on our mini-moon in Piemonte.
Hey lovely More Please people! I am so thrilled and buzzing with pleasure to be bringing you this week an ENTIRE DINNER PARTY MENU from my cookbook, Good Time Cooking!
It feels only right that you should be able to see into the book a bit, plus this menu is very close to my heart as it is all about my favourite city in the world, Bologna, where I got married this summer. Don’t forget, you still have a 40% discount for the book making it only £15.60. Code linked at the end of the post!
So below are the recipes (and pictures by Sam Harris) from the book for -
Mortadella, Ricotta and Pistachio Crostini
Funghi Sott’Olio with Celery and Parmesan
Lasagne alla Bolognese - my definitive, perfect lasagne
Coffee Panna Cotta with Ginger and Grissini
Along with a dedicated Time Plan and Mise-en-Place list and Scaling Guide as given in the book.
Ok I won’t carry on too much, as this is a long one. I’ve loved writing up all the food we ate at our wedding in Bologna and the highlights from our mini-moon in Piemonte, and I hope you enjoy them too. Tomorrow we will be 1 month married, and writing this has been a lovely little dose of serotonin for me.
THE BIG LASAGNA - OUR WEDDING IN BOLOGNA
Why Bologna, I hear you ask? We just bloody love it.
It’s long been one of my favourite places to visit in Italy since I first travelled there solo in 2018. It somehow hits the sweet spot of being entirely walkable yet cosmopolitan and interesting. The architecture is glorious, the shopping is great and of course, the food is sublime. Home of fresh egg pasta, many meat sauces and mortadella, it is truly unbeatable for a weekend break. It’s still not quite a tourist hot spot, so restaurants are filled with locals (the Bolognesi love to eat out) and are very much geared towards them too. It’s a student town too, everyone feels young and cool and the vibes are immaculate. It’s also extremely well located for the rest of Italy by train. If you are planning a trip to Bologna then my guide is here, I updated it every time we went there which was at least 6 times in the last 18 months, so it is pretty comprehensive. I would recommend visiting Bologna in late May or early October particularly, when it’s warm but not mad hot.
We called our wedding “The Big Lasagna” because
It was going to be in Bologna, home of Lasagna and
We decided to skip wedding cake and serve our guests a giant lasagna at the end of the night instead.
